Jan lands top honour for community wor

A DIRECTOR of a family-run Scottish car dealership has won a major award for her community work.

Jan Livingston­e, the customer service boss of SEAT outlet W Livingston­e Ltd, had her efforts recognised by the Scottish Motor Trade Associatio­n (SMTA).

She received a coveted C.A.R. (Community Activity Recognitio­n) Star Award at a glittering dinner held in Glasgow because of her tireless work with local charity, the G71 Community Action Group.

Jan, whose showroom is in Uddingston, Lanarkshir­e, volunteere­d to help when the organisati­on was set up by a local resident at the start of the first lockdown in March 2020.

The aim of the group was to support those most in need within the community and the team were soon delivering more than 200 evening dinners and lunches.

Jan had the task of finding and co-ordinating volunteer drivers (including several members of W Livingston­e Ltd’s staff) to deliver the meals. While still managing her responsibi­lities the business, Jan spent all of her spare time wo for the action group, also organising “essential p to needy households who were able to make th own meals.

With Jan’s help, the charity has also set up a c bank and even carried out Easter, Halloween an Christmas convoys, where she and other volunt have driven around the wider community giving to families.

The organisati­on has even bought and installe several publicly accessible defibrilla­tors in the community.

Jan said: “It is a great honour to help our community in times of and I enjoy the camaraderi­e of it all.

“It is a team effort and we have a wealth of volunteers who have made it possible to do this. I am only one of many who give up the free time to help.”
