Jim’s fed up not seeing net profit from Saints

- BY GORDON PARKS

JIM GOODWIN fears St Mirren’s goal drought is in danger of blowing their season off course.

The Buddies boss once again saw his misfiring side draw a blank to leave them in eighth spot.

And after seeing them score just once in the last five games, he insists it’s not for a lack of chances.

He said: “It’s incredibly frustrating – we’ve had 25 attempts on goal, but it’s our Achilles heel that we’re not taking enough of them.

“It’s not all about the strikers. Yes, they’re the ones judged on goals, but anyone can get on the end of a ball into the box and we’ve had ten or 11 corners and countless other crosses.

“That’s 16 games now and eight draws, which tells its own story. I feel extremely disappointed this is another game we could have won but didn’t.

“If I’m going to put a positive spin on things, it’s that we were excellent in the second half.

“But to win games you have to score goals. It’s the difference between making the top six and not.

“We will keep working away and it may take the ball going in off of someone’s backside for it all to start turning our way.”

Staggies boss Malky Mackay was satisfied with a share of the points which maintains the recent momentum his side have gained in the Premiership.

He said: “In the first half we had two or three terrific chances and probably dominated play.

“To be fair, St Mirren did that in the second half and at the end of the day it’s another clean sheet and just one defeat in our last five matches.

“It keeps us in touch with the teams above us and we’re just six points from sixth position.”
