Safety fears over stormhit stand
closed the street outside the stadium and health and safety inspectors have carried out an assessment of the structure.
Now the fixture is set to go ahead but with the stand shut. Celtic will still be cheered on by a 3000strong travelling support housed in the west and Jim McLean Stands.
A United statement said: “Regarding the Storm Arwen damage to the Jerry Kerr Stand roof and having commissioned professional assessment of the damages, we have reluctantly taken the decision to close the stand for Sunday’s fixture versus Celtic due to ongoing safety concerns.
“Celtic supporters who have been allocated tickets in this stand will receive a full refund.”
A Hoops statement added: “We sympathise with all those supporters affected and understand the disappointment this will cause.
“We would echo Dundee United’s request that supporters without tickets do not travel to Tannadice Park for safety reasons.”
The Parkhead club added that the match won’t be taken into consideration “with regards to future ticket allocations”.
Tam Courts hopes injured duo Jeando Fuchs and Dylan Levitt will be back to face Celtic along with Calum Butcher, who has served a two-game suspension.
The United boss said: “We’ll assess, monitor and give them every opportunity.
“This is giving young players the opportunity in the middle of the park. Darren Watson came off the bench against Motherwell and was a real bright spark.”
Courts also paid tribute to Ian Harkes for climbing out his sick bed to face Well and added: “He probably shouldn’t have played but that’s what I’ve come to expect of these boys.”
