AMBER Brother charged with her murder & sexual assault
Connor Gibson, 19, appears in court as sisters post online tributes to tragic teenager Amber
THE brother of teenager Amber Gibson appeared in court yesterday charged with sexually assaulting and murdering her.
Amber, 16, was found dead in Cadzow Glen in Hamilton on Sunday morning. Connor Gibson, who also uses the surname Niven, appeared in private at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where he was further accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice. Gibson, of Hamilton, made no plea and was remanded in custody by Sheriff Linda Nicolson. He is expected to make another appearance in court within the next eight days. The 19-year-old was brought to court amid heightened
security with police closing roads near to the court building to allow a prisoner transport vehicle access to the building.
Officers were also positioned around the perimeter of the court ahead of his brief appearance in the dock.
Amber had vanished from the Hillhouse area of Hamilton last Friday evening and had sparked a huge missing person hunt before her body was found in woodland in Cadzow Glen park.
Flowers, a balloon and a candle were placed at the entrance to the park in tribute.
One card read: “May you rest in peace, young angel. Fly high.” Another said: “Rest in peace. We will always think of you.”
Amber’s family have been left “devastated” by the death of the teenager.
Her sister Laura Tran posted a photo of Amber online and said: “We will love you forever. I wish I could have protected you.”
Another sister, Lisa Murray, added: “My beautiful sister. Words can’t describe how heartbroken we are you are gone.
“You were our little ball of ginger light from the beginning.
“Your smile lit up the room, your singing was questionable but it was always your favourite thing to do. “We love you, Amber. Always.” Other heartbroken family members also changed their social media profile photos to show pictures of the teenager.
Police are urging anyone with any information to come forward.
We will love you forever. I wish I could have protected you LISA TRAN, AMBER’S SISTER
