Sean’s last trip to Leith was day Lenny showed his wings but he’ll take a 1-0 this time

SEAN GOSS won’t forget his only outing at Easter Road in a hurry – as it was one of the craziest games he’s ever been involved in.

The Motherwell midfielder is hoping for a more straightforward 90 minutes on this occasion and the collection of three points.

Goss was on loan at Rangers from QPR when they faced Hibs on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign, with both sides still having a chance of finishing second behind champions Celtic.

At the end of a pulsating game, with the sides sharing 10 goals in a 5-5 draw, Rangers had to settle for third spot with the Hibees in fourth.

Hibs took a three-goal lead before Gers stormed back to be level at the interval and then go 5-3 up after it.

Jamie Maclaren pulled one back and then drew Hibs level in stoppage time, which sparked then boss Neil Lennon’s iconic aeroplane celebration.

But Goss hopes it will be Motherwell flying high this time in Leith.

He said: “My last game at Easter Road was the 5-5 game, it’s definitely up there for the maddest game I’ve been involved in.

“Rangers were 3-0 down and if Hibs won five-nil, they would have gone above Rangers in the last game of the season.

“It was certainly an interesting day, one of those games that happen sometimes. Hopefully it won’t be like that this time and we can go and get the three points.”

Goss forged a friendship with Hibs’ Jamie Murphy during their time together at Ibrox.

And he revealed the first time they met, Murphy kipped on a couch as he didn’t want to wake up his new team-mate as they roomed together when Rangers were in the

Florida Cup during the winter break. Goss said: “We signed in the January together and he was my first roomy there. “We went with Rangers to play in the Florida Cup and I waited up all night for him as he was on a different flight when I was sharing a room with him. “We were staying in a complex with villas with double rooms. I waited up all night and then thought he must have missed his flight, so I went to sleep. “When I woke up in the morning, Jamie was on the living room on the sofa with pillows over him, freezing. “He snuck in during the night and that sums him up as a guy as he didn’t want to wake anyone up. He’s a really nice guy and it will be good to see him. Fingers crossed we can upset him by getting the three points.”

Motherwell have won three of their last four games, beating Aberdeen, Hearts and Dundee United, but boss Graham Alexander insists they won’t get carried away.

He said: “There are good teams all the way through the division. We showed the true us in three of the four games but showed our dark side when we didn’t approach it right mentally (in the 3-0 loss against Dundee).

“Improvement has to be in our focus and concentration in showing we’re a good team.

“It’s not about ‘do it this way’, we’ve got to be consistent in how we approach every opponent, regardless of where they are in the table, how big they are, or the names on their teamsheet.

“We set a list of pillars relating to our performance and we have to make sure we reach them.

“Consistency is the hardest thing. We can’t think we’re better than we are. We need to have humility to understand we have to work our socks off every day to be good.”
