FUCHS IS STAYING FOCUSED

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

THOMAS COURTS insists he’s not worried about the Old Firm sniffing around Jeando Fuchs as the midfielder is fully focused on getting Dundee United out of their recent funk.

The Cameroon ace is on the radar of several clubs going into the January window with Celtic and Rangers also understood to be keeping tabs.

Courts is not surprised there is interest but he’s convinced Fuchs won’t be distracted as United look to turn around their form after just one win in their last seven games.

The United boss said: “Even today, from Jeando’s performance and throughout the last few weeks you can see he is a top player not just for us but also in this league.

“I’ve always gone on record as saying if any players, particularly the top performing ones, have aspirations to get to the top level, the types of club you mentioned will naturally be interested.

“Jeando is a focused guy, our relationship is strong and he likes to do his talking on the pitch. So yes, there is not much more I can say on that.”

Courts refused to be too downbeat despite United suffering against Celts.

He said: “We couldn’t really get our distances right to gain any real control in the game and at least make some physical contact.

“In the first 45 minutes in particular, the goals were extremely disappointing. I felt like if we had got in at half-time and made a couple of tweaks we could have given ourselves a fighting chance in the second half.

“The two goals we conceded in the first half were extremely avoidable and made things difficult for us.”

United’s superb start to the season has hit the skids but Courts is confident they can click back into gear.

He said: “We’ve been very reliant on the same players to perform admirably for us. The squad is stretched.

“We’re calm, we know where we need to get to. It’s more about giving Celtic credit than looking at any failings we’ve got. It’s the same as when we were winning games. It’s recognising the league is competitive. Everyone is beating everyone.”
