It’s so Andy for Ando to grab glory

-

STEVEN ANDERSON joked it was nice to steal a bit of attention from Forfar defensive partner Andy Munro with his first goal for the club.

The ex-St Johnstone star – who netted in their Scottish Cup win in 2014 – found the net for the first time in almost three years with the late winner against Albion Rovers.

And it closed the gap on leaders Kelty Hearts to seven points.

Anderson said: “Big Andy keeps scoring goals and he’s been taking the limelight a bit, so it’s nice to get a goal. But it’s all about getting three points and closing that gap.

“I’ve been injured for a long time (Achilles problem) as well, so it’s been a while.

“My last goal was when I was at Partick Thistle on loan but my job isn’t to get goals, it’s to keep clean sheets and we didn’t do that so I’m disappointed with that side of it.”

The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute when Craig Slater’s strike inside the box took a wicked deflection and fell perfectly for Stefan McCluskey to slot home.

PJ Crossan made it 2-0 when he bent the ball into the bottom corner to open his account for the season.

Albion Rovers hit back with Keiran Dolan curling into the top corner.

Charlie Reilly swept in the equaliser in the 74th minute. But they were caught napping at a freekick and Anderson slotted home the winner eight minutes from time.

Jamie Hamill reckoned his Stranraer players more than merited their Christmas night out after fighting back to win 4-1 at Stenhousemuir.

The Blues boss said: “It was a good performance away from home against a team who have been on a good run – we could have scored more.”

Thomas Orr gave the home side the lead in the fourth minute but Scott Robertson levelled. Anton Brady put Stranraer ahead with Ayrton Sonkur adding a third, sustaining a head knock in the process.

But Tommy Muir came back to haunt his former side early in the second half when he scored from the penalty spot after Broque Watson was pulled down by Adam Corbett.

Fraser Mullen scored the only goal of the game, three minutes into the second half, to help Cowdenbeath deliver a first win under new boss Maurice Ross.
