Grealish is Throne to the wolves

WATFORD ................... MAN CITY ....................

MANCHESTER CITY are singing a song of ice and fire right now.

While Bernardo Silva is as hot as anything in George R. R. Martin’s epic Game of Thrones saga, Jack Grealish is as cold as ice.

While the final episode of Thrones was aired ages ago, we’re still waiting for author Martin to finish writing the final instalment of his series in novel form.

City spent £100million on Grealish in the summer and it feels like we’re still waiting for the 26-year-old to arrive too.

The champions were so dominant they could easily have scored eight but despite Grealish playing as a centre forward on his first league start since October, he still couldn’t find a goal or an assist.

Lucky for him then that Silva hit a brace to make the game safe after Raheem Sterling’s opener, rendering Cucho Hernandez’s late goal for Watford little more than consolation.

It’s Silva who wears the crown at City at right now. He’s now their top scorer in the league this season with seven, equalling his best tally back in 2019.

His throne is not coming under threat any time soon from Grealish, who had a shot deflected on to the bar and a free header saved by Daniel Bachmann.

The former Aston Villa star was substituted in the 67th minute having missed two big chances and failed to score with his three shots on target.

Grealish has just one goal in 11 league games since his big-money move from Villa and only two assists.

While City went top of the table with this win, their seventh in a row, and at times played some of their most sensational football of the season, they need Grealish firing.

They may not have an out-an-out centre forward after missing out on Harry Kane but they have plenty of contenders for the false nine role.

Phil Foden and Ferran Torres have already performed it better than Grealish did while Gabriel Jesus is waiting in the wings for an opportunity too.

With better finishing, this game would have been over after 20 minutes and Guardiola could have emptied his bench and given his big guns a rest.

But while Guardiola claimed afterward that City had “reached their highest standard” of the season, he also admitted they should have done better in front of goal. It may be their only weakness, and nobody sums that up better than Grealish right now.
