KLOPP: Trouble ain’t brewing with Mo deal

It’s not like a cup of tea and you find an agreement, Reds boss says on contract

JURGEN KLOPP has told fans there is no need to panic over the future of Mo Salah.

The Liverpool star inspired more frenzied speculation about tortuous contract negotiations in an interview in his native Egypt, by indicating the club were lowballing him.

Salah bluntly stated that in his mind he is “the best in the world” at the moment and hinted the Reds board need to reflect that by making an offer on a par with some of the biggest names in football.

“Your financial value shows how much the club appreciates you and that they are ready to do anything for you to stay,” the winger said.

“If the decision is up to me, I want to stay in Liverpool but the decision is in the hands of the management and they have to solve this issue.”

Klopp though, was relaxed about the latest comments from his star player.

The Liverpool boss said: “We are talking. But you know exactly what Mo is about. Extending the contract of a player like Mo, it’s not like a cup of tea in the afternoon and you find an agreement.

“That’s completely normal. Mo is fine, I am fine. What we all want is clear and things like this need time. That’s it.”

Meanwhile, Divock Origi has regularly been banging on Klopp’s door to question his lack of game-time.

But that doesn’t mean the striker is a dead cert to leave according to his boss ... even though his deal is up in the summer.

Origi has been linked with a move to Newcastle in January but Klopp, who has worked with the Belgium international since he arrived at Anfield in 2015, said: “If you are not a starter for Liverpool you can still be a world-class player, it’s really possible.

“There are worse things than being not a constant starter for Liverpool FC, I tell you. It’s really nice to be part of this squad, part of this team. But it’s nice he has that skill and that he used it at the weekend.”

Indeed, Origi reminded everyone of those talents on Saturday with a crucial late winning goal from the bench at Wolves.

He has scored more goals from the bench in the Premier League than any other Reds player and Klopp indicated he would be a certain starter against AC Milan tonight.

That is a rare start though, with the boss explaining Origi isn’t satisfied with his supersub role.

“Moaned is not the right word but of course he knocked on my door and we were talking about things,” said Klopp who will make widespread changes for the dead-rubber.

“We worked together as long as I’m here, pretty much, so that’s happened from time to time.

“It’s not that Div was always in a world-class shape. He got injuries in the wrong moments.”
