I have trained myself to hit the high notes

- BY ANDY NEWPORT

IN-FORM Joe Aribo reckons practice makes perfect after admitting his wonder touch against St Johnstone came straight off the training ground.

The Rangers ace has become a viral sensation after pulling a high ball out of the sky and killing it stone dead with one flick of his boot against Saints on Wednesday night.

The outrageous piece of skill came just days after he’d pulled off a similar technique to control a 50-yard Connor Goldson pass on his way to scoring the clincher in Sunday’s win at Hearts.

But Aribo brushed off the fuss as he admitted he had fortune on his side.

The Player of the Year contender said: “It is funny because in training I just kick balls in the air.

“A lot of boys do. I was lucky to control it, bring it down and I slipped in Fashion Sakala after that.

“I was happy to be able to do that. I am just playing freely right now.

“I don’t know (what has brought the strength out in the last few weeks) to be honest. I am just playing freely and I am thankful to God for my talents.”

The 2-0 win over Callum

Davidson’s stubborn Saints means Gers have taken maximum points from five league games under new boss Gio van Bronckhorst.

Gers had to fight their way through a penalty box log-jam as the Perth strugglers sat deep.

The champions found a route to goal as Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent sealed a win which keeps them four points clear.

Aribo said: “The boys are buzzing. It wasn’t the best at times but it is nice to get over the obstacle and get the three points.

“It is not always going to be a fast start so we just have to be patient.

“That is what the boss is saying, it was lucky to get the breakthrough just before half-time.

“You need to put in performances and get the points. That is what we are looking for in every match.”
