Classic stars to watch out for in 2022

-

CLASSIC car fans and petrolheads are being given clear directions about what they should buy next year.

Renowned automotive enthusiast company and specialist insurance provider Hagerty has revealed the 10 star motors worth snapping up in 2022 for driving experience and possible rising values.

First up is the 2010-15 Ferrari 458 Italia. The 562bhp 4.5-litre V8 and rear-wheel set-up offers driving perfection and a top speed beyond 200mph.

The 1998-2002 Maserati 3200 is both elegant and muscular, with signature details such as the boomerang-shaped rear light cluster and the distinctive Maserati trident badge set into the C-pillar.

BMW’s new MINI made its public debut at the turn of the 21st century – a homage to the original and still fun. The 2001-2006 Cooper R50 remains a hoot to drive.

The 1939-40 TB Midget is the rarest of all MG T series. Just 379 were built and it potentially offers entry into a host of historic motorsport events.

Porsche fans will want to get their hands on a 1996-2004 Boxster, which is seen as one of the most affordable ways to own a machine made by the German sports marque. A quirky and rarely available choice in the UK would be the 1961-1994 Renault 4L, although its utilitarian style, allowing for great practicality, is a matter of taste.

The 1993-1995 Renault Clio Williams Homologation Special is a must for rallying fans. Limited production numbers and its motorsport heritage make it very collectable.

If you are after exclusive luxury, the 1977-1986 Rolls-Royce Camargue should be on your radar – it was world’s most expensive production car at the time and only 531 were made.

Sports car fans ought to check out the 1969-1976 Triumph TR6 – with a relatively big engine up front, two seats in the middle, a roof you’ll want to leave down and rear wheels that do the driving.

Staycation enthusiasts will eye up the 1979-2002 Volkswagen T3/T25 Camper, which can provide retro yet comfortable holiday experiences.

UK Hagerty Price Guide editor John Mayhead said: “We look at cars to suit a range of budgets and offer different driving experiences.

“We’re proud to include everything from a pre-war car that can be raced and a camper van for family weekends to a more modern Ferrari.”
