Predator cop victim’s relief over jail term

Woman speaks out about abuse and urges others to report sex crimes

- BY RORY CASSIDY

A WOMAN who was sexually harassed by a police officer has urged other crime victims not to suffer in silence after her tormentor was jailed.

David Taylor bombarded the 37-year-old with naked photos and sordid messages after she reported her ex-partner for domestic abuse.

The married constable was jailed last week for 14 months after admitting abusing the woman and two other females.

One of his victims yesterday hailed the sentence and urged other abuse victims to step forward.

The mum described the verdict as “another part of a three-year emotional rollercoaster”.

She added: “I’m glad he finally got what was due to him for his actions.

“It’s mixed with sadness that it even happened, frustration it took so long and relief there is finally some closure.

“I hope this is a lesson learned that no one is above the law.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you work or who you know, eventually justice, in any form, will happen.

“I only hope this helps other people in these types of situations to speak up.”

The woman, who does not want to be identified, added: “It was such an exhausting and fearful process but it was worth it. It won’t ever change it having happened to me and others but these types of predators need to be off our streets and we need to teach our children that this is not OK.” In 2018, Taylor sent naked videos and photos of himself in the shower to the woman after she told police her ex had threatened to kidnap her daughter. She later alerted the police to the messages and an investigation was launched, revealing Taylor had targeted two other women. He harassed another who reported domestic abuse in 2011 and hounded and stalked a sex assault victim in 2017. Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard he boasted how he wanted to act out scenes from the book and film Fifty Shades of Grey with the sex assault victim. He was arrested and charged and pled guilty to four of 13 charges he faced during a hearing last month. The court heard Taylor pestered the women over a seven-year period as he felt he “clicked” with them while investigating their crime reports. A police spokesperson said: “We will respond to all reports of sexual crime irrespective of who the offender is.”
