The good Life

A COUPLE who ditched their stressful lives following a series of failed IVF attempts are set to welcome a “miracle baby” after moving to Scotland to live in a campervan.

Jenna Winterburn-Hynd, 38, and wife Cath, 34, left their home and jobs near the New Forest and haven’t looked back.

The couple, whose first child Luna, three, was carried by Jenna and conceived through a sperm donor, were desperate to welcome another baby when Cath started the IVF process in August 2020.

But the pair were left disappointed after six failed rounds of the treatment.

The frustrated couple believed Cath’s stress relating to her job as a deputy manager at an outdoor centre was behind their struggles.

So the brave family decided to make a huge change.

Having purchased a campervan, Cath and Jenna decided in October this year to move their lives inside it and move to Scotland – a decision made in part because Jenna’s dad, who passed away from Covid last year, was from Dundee.

The pair gave up their home and sold or gave away nearly all their belongings.

Within days of arriving, the happy couple discovered Cath was pregnant on October 6 while the family were tucked away in a forest near the

Pentland Hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Jenna said: “It was the best feeling – it was great to know all the life changes we made had worked.

“We’d got rid of the stress and everything else we didn’t really need and now we can have our second child.”

Jenna, who owns her own ethical jewellery company Salt and Wild, said the family now live an “amazing”

life and she has even managed to adapt her work studio for life in a campervan – which has a composting toilet and eco shower.

She added: “When we made this decision it was really cathartic, then we went into panic mode.

“We gave up so many things you build up over your lifetime, so to give it all away was really scary.

“But the way we looked at it was a fresh start. Either we did all this and had an amazing experience with Luna and the IVF didn’t work, or we had an amazing experience and the IVF did work. As it turns out, it has been life-changing.” Jenna, Cath and Luna have spent seven weeks exploring Scotland, making lots of pitstops as they travelled from Edinburgh, on to St Andrews, Aberfeldy and the Cairngorms before heading to Loch Ness and down the west coast. Jenna added: “I’ve always felt like I’m going home when I go to Scotland, because of my dad, so this time has been really special. “Scotland is the perfect country for this lifestyle. People are so welcoming and it’s the best country to explore with the most incredible views. “We don’t know what we’re doing with the baby being born but we do think we’ll look for somewhere a bit more permanent and Scotland is high on the agenda.” Jenna, Cath and Luna share their life on Instagram page Slowly Wilding and insist anyone can change their lives. Jenna said: “Van life with a child is possible and it’s the best thing you can do for them. Luna is thriving from learning all these different things. For us as a family, we knew what we were doing was right.”
