Hedges heading for Pittodrie exit with Blackburn waiting in wings

- BY SCOTT BURNS

STEPHEN GLASS has confirmed Ryan Hedges looks set to quit Aberdeen.

The Welsh international is out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to sign the extension which has been on the table for several months.

Glass has stated the Dons have made him a “brilliant offer” but it hasn’t got him back round the table.

English Championship side Blackburn are set to open talks with Hedges over a pre-contract and look favourites to land him.

Glass knows it is now just a waiting game, until Hedges makes a decision on his future.

The Aberdeen manager confirmed: “It’s as it was. He’s not signed a contract and he’s going to be available in January on a pre-contract elsewhere. It doesn’t look like he’s going to sign a new contract. We’d love him to.

“The club has made him a brilliant offer but it doesn’t look like he’s going to sign it, which is his right.”

Glass has already started looking at possible January transfer targets, including St Mirren’s Jamie McGrath, but he admitted his plans could be impacted by the government’s decision to limit crowds over the next three weeks.

He knows that will have a severe financial impact on the club and their spending power.

Glass stated: “We don’t know if anybody is going out, so we don’t know if anybody can come in.

“It’s important that you’re ready to jump if you’re able. The club looks strong going into the window and the aim is always to come out stronger.

“It might be difficult this winter… this situation might dictate things as well, you never know the finances with the news that is coming out right now.”

Rising full-back Calvin Ramsay is another who is attracting strong interest from England and Europe. He is back in the squad for tonight’s trip to Hibernian.

Glass confirmed: “He’s got a chance, whether we play him or not. He’s trained the last couple of weeks which has given us an opportunity to see him.

“It’s given us a choice so that’s how close he is, whether he starts or not. What’s going to happen with Calvin will take care of itself.” Glass returns to his former club and will go head-to-head with new Hibs boss Shaun Maloney.

They lost the Premier Sports Cup Final at the weekend and will be looking for that new manager boost – but the resurgent Dons are looking to make it four wins on the bounce.

Glass stated: “He (Maloney) had a very good career and he’s had a great start to his coaching career too.

“He’s making the step into it being your team which is a little bit different when your name is on it and you’re responsible for fronting the whole thing.

“But we know it’s very difficult at Hibs, we know they’ve got a great group of players and they’ll be hungry to impress the new manager and stay in the team.”
