Lawyer sent sex pics to cleaver convict
Prison guards found X-rated photos on violent thug’s phone
A LAWYER sent dozens of naked snaps to a violent prisoner after defending him in court.
Criminal defence solicitor Amy Spencer sent the X-rated shots of herself to a mobile phone in HMP Low Moss – in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow – where Grant McNamara is serving a five-year sentence for a meat cleaver attack. The images were discovered by jail staff who reported it to Scottish Prison Service bosses and the solicitors’ governing body, the Law Society of Scotland. A prison insider said: “She was caught sending naked photographs of herself to Grant McNamara. “The photographs were seized by prison staff who recognised her from them. She also visited him for long periods of time.”
The source added: “Prison staff are appalled. Nothing seems to have happened to her – despite the prison service advising the Law Society.”
When the complaints emerged, Spencer was working with Paisley law firm Tod & Mitchell.
She no longer works for the company and a spokesman for Tod & Mitchell refused to comment about the pictures.
Violent McNamara, 28, was jailed for four years and nine months at Paisley Sheriff Court in July over a blade attack which left victim Dale Mitchell scarred for life.
The Paisley thug had been released from jail following an axe attack on a taxi driver when he attacked Mitchell in
October 2020 after a row about Facebook posts.
Spencer, a Glasgow University law graduate and former prosecutor, set up her own business in September.
She declined to comment about the photos when approached. A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service said they had no comment to make.
The Law Society of Scotland also refused to comment on whether Spencer is being investigated, saying: “The Law Society of Scotland cannot confirm or deny complaints cases.
“As the professional body for Scottish solicitors we take our regulatory duties very seriously to ensure that people have confidence in the legal profession.
“Where we have reason to believe one of our members has not met the high professional standards expected of them we will take action.”
