Norrie: I’m now one of the hunted

-

TENNIS star Cameron Norrie knows he will be the hunted rather than the hunter as he prepares to lead Great Britain in their ATP Cup campaign to kick off 2022.

After exiting in the group stages of the inaugural competition in 2020, Britain did not qualify last year but the Scot’s unexpected rise to the verge of the top 10 means they are back in the field.

Their campaign begins tomorrow with a rematch against Germany, who they lost to in the Davis Cup quarter-finals. Britain also take on Canada and USA.

World No.12 Norrie said: “A lot of the time last year I was being the underdog and going out and hunting those guys, whereas now I think some of the time it’s going to be people hunting me.”

Dan Evans will be Britain’s No.2, while Joe Salisbury and Jamie Murray team up in doubles. ATHLETICS Laura Muir knows she may never better the Olympic silver medal that gave Britain a night to remember in Tokyo.

But as the new year dawns she insists her first taste of global success has only made her more hungry.

The Scot said: “The fire inside me is, if anything, burning even more fiercely now. Tokyo gave me a taste of what it’s like to be on a global podium.

“I want more of that, I want to add more medals.

“I will now go into championships more relaxed, knowing ‘you know what, I’ve done this before, I can do this’. Hopefully that will make me run even better.

“It’s a matter of being consistent and staying injury free.

“If I work as hard as I can hopefully it will get me closer and closer to that golden position.” ICE HOCKEY Dundee Stars crashed 7-1 at Belfast Giants in their first Elite League outing for almost three weeks last night.
