QUOTE OF THE DAY

-

‘Rangers might be able to match the arrogance of the late great Clough – but he won a couple of trophies they can only dream of’ be claiming all those honours can they? Does that make the current Celtic a new club only 27 years old or are they a ‘separate entity’ also?”

Ciaran Mallon, Belfast, said: “Gers supporters still moaning about the early winter break and the conspiracy theory Celtic are behind it due to the injury crisis at Parkhead is all quite comical.

“What it says to me is squeaky-bum time has come early at Ibrox. As for December’s manager of the month, I’d argue winning the first trophy of the season, going unbeaten in the league and winning in Europe makes Ange Postecoglou the outstanding candidate.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “The SPFL have made such a mockery of this season by allowing clubs to try to reschedule fixtures, I hope next season, the SPFL play scheduled fixtures as they were meant to be, should the government allow.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “I’d be surprised if Rangers make significant signings in this window, it all depends who if anyone is sold. Maybe a centre-back and young winger is required.”

John Bruce emailed: “There’s no doubt Alfredo Morelos looks a much improved and a much happier player under Gio van Bronckhorst. This has been put down to Alfredo having been given a kick up the backside but it could be a couple of other things.

“Firstly, Gio has been playing Alfredo in his favoured role as penalty box striker, rather than as a link-up man where he was deployed under Steven Gerrard. Secondly, Gio speaks Spanish. Who knows how much of a boost this has given Alfredo?

Finally, William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “Scotland’s football team did well this year but the greatest moment was the rugby team winning the Calcutta Cup over our old rivals. It’s good to see out an old year with a smile.”
