BULLEN EYEING UP DON RAIDS

- AYR UTD v ARBROATH

LEE BULLEN admits he’s jumping in at the deep end today as he goes up against the Don of Scottish football.

The 50-year-old was unveiled as United’s new head coach on a two-anda-half-year deal yesterday and faces table-topping Arbroath first up.

He said: “It will be tough but I like a challenge and going up against the Godfather of Scottish football in Dick Campbell is a test I will relish.

“We will be aiming as high as we can get. I personally feel there is a real chance of success here.

“I’m a positive man, I’d love to be a manager in the Premier League.

“Jobs have come up in the past that I’ve not felt would be right for me, but having spoken to Graeme Mathie and David Smith, it was clear they are moving in the right direction here.

“There is no scattergun approach. They have a gradual process in place and know where they are going. We will aim high but we’ll do it in the right way.

“I’m fully aware of the predicament we’re in at the moment but all we can do is worry about the teams above us and try to improve past them.”

Bullen admits it was a tough decision to leave Sheffield Wednesday and move north.

He said: “I have family down the road and there was a lot that came into the mix. Something like that was never going to be an easy sell to the family but I’m lucky to have a very supportive girlfriend who is behind me all the way.”

Arbroath No.2 Ian Campbell reckons the competitive spirit among the squad has been crucial to their recent success.

He said: “The spirit in our team is magnificent. We just need to focus on ourselves and try to continue that.”
