A MAN was stabbed in the head and a van set alight as violence erupted in a housing estate.

Locals said it was “like a warzone” as the blade attack on the victim took place just hours before the vehicle was deliberately set on fire in Glasgow’s Milton.

Police raced to the scene after the man was discovered injured on Skerray Street at 2pm on Sunday.

Sources said the victim was stabbed “multiple times” and suffered serious face and head injuries.

Just hours later, detectives were forced to scramble to nearby Longay Street as fire ripped through a parked Highway Maintenance vehicle.

One local said: “A man was stabbed in the head multiple times after something kicked off near the chippy.

“Police put up tape and have been there ever since – it is really scary how that can happen so close to home.” A neighbour said: “My street has been turned into a warzone. I can’t believe it. “A man has been really badly injured from the attack. It was brutal. The damage from the fire is still there and it is making the full area stink of smoke.” One witness added: “I heard huge bangs and thought fireworks were going off until I realised it was a van on fire. “It was really loud and, when I saw the flames, I was really scared. A neighbour had to run to the police at the cordon where the man was stabbed to tell them a van was on fire round the corner. “It was really shocking.” Officers said there was no suggestion the incidents are linked.

A spokesman said: “Police were called around 2.10pm on Sunday following the report of a man found injured on Skerray Street, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
