If he loses he shouldn’t set foot out of UK says lawyer

- BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN

PRINCE Andrew should “never to set foot out of the UK” if he loses his sex abuse case because of possible criminal charges, a lawyer for Jeffrey Epstein’s victims has warned.

It heaps yet further pressure on the Duke of York to consider settling Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit out of court in order to avoid further damaging the reputation of the monarchy.

Leading US attorney Spencer Kuvin said that the royal, 61, could face prosecution if a jury finds in his accuser’s favour.

Such a move would leave “Air Miles Andy”, who earned his nickname from his globetrotting as a senior royal, open to arrest if he ventured into in a country that has a deal with the US.

Kuvin said: “If I were Prince Andrew’s counsel, I would tell him never to leave the UK.

“The moment he does, he could potentially, if Ms Giuffre’s allegations are proven true, be charged criminally and brought to the US from a country that has an extradition treaty with it.

“He effectively could become a prisoner in his mom’s country.”

A civil case like that brought by Giuffre can lead to criminal charges in America, when a trial between two private parties reveals evidence that one may have committed an offence.

Andrew has a stark choice – try to clear his name and give public testimony against allegations of rape and sexual assault, or persuade Giuffre to accept a multi-million pound settlement but have a suspicion of guilt hanging over him.

Giuffre, 38, welcomed a New York judge’s decision to deny Andrew’s motion to have her lawsuit against him thrown out.

Yesterday she tweeted: “I’m glad I will have the chance to continue to expose the truth.”

The duke has “categorically” denied her allegations and sources say he is “hugely upset” over the lack of foreign travel since scaling back his royal duties.
