Jailed rapist faces being deported

A RAPIST has been warned he faces being kicked out of Scotland after being jailed.
Valentin Lovin ignored his victim’s pleas for him to stop when he attacked her.
The 31-year-old told the High Court in Edinburgh that he would struggle in prison because of his lack of English.
But judge Lady Haldane locked him up for five years when Lovin appeared in the dock for sentencing.
She told him: “You were convicted of rape. In relation to the events in question you believed she was open to having sexual intercourse.
“However, the real concern is that despite you apparently accepting she told you to stop, you persisted in having full sexual intercourse with her – despite the fact she was clearly not consenting.
“It shows a complete lack of understanding of, and insight into, the concept of consent, and in turn your stance of denial that your actions amounted to rape means I cannot take any account of any remorse you might feel for your actions and any impact they might have both short and long term. “I recognise this conviction will have significant consequences for you beyond your release in that you are liable to be deported from this country.
“Nothing can take away from the fact rape is rightly regarded to be among the most serious crimes to come before this court and only a custodial sentence will reflect that fact.”
Romanian Lovin’s counsel told the court: “He clearly struggles with English and will struggle with English in prison and that is an added difficulty for him to deal with.”
Lovin, of Arbroath, was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow last month of attacking and raping a woman in Annan on November 17, 2019.
