Devine’s still a believer in squad’s law

- INVERNESS v QOS ALASDAIR FRASER

DANNY DEVINE would welcome January additions at Inverness – but insists the squad is strong enough to succeed without them.

The Northern Irish defender also believes the Championship title race could go right to the wire as one of the tightest contests in recent memory.

Ahead of today’s home clash with Queens Devine said: “The belief among the lads just now is massive. We all believe in each other.

“When we have a fully fit squad we have intense competition for places and strength in depth. But you know what it is like in football, there can always be injuries and suspensions and the squad can become a bit thin.

“If nothing happens in the transfer window we’ll definitely still back ourselves to push on in the new year and achieve our ambitions.

“We’ve done well so far to get to this stage in the season in a position of strength but we can always do better.

“Most of the teams, especially the top five, are very evenly matched, but we are always going to back ourselves, no matter what. It could be tight all the way to the end of the season.

“If we want to challenge for the league it’s really important we win as many of our home games as we can. We’re hopeful we can really kick on in the second half of the season and really start to establish our dominance at home.”

Queens boss Allan Johnston has called on his players to defend better in Inverness.

He said: “Caley Thistle are one of the top teams in this division so we will need to defend well first and foremost.

“That said, we also need to be more of a goal threat, so hopefully we can do that and be better over the next few weeks. We’re still looking to try and bring in some quality but that’s the challenge as there is a lot of competition out there.”
