WEBBY FEELS SO AT HOME IN LYONS’ DEN

-

GRAHAM WEBSTER reckons Montrose returnee Blair Lyons is a belter at making him look sublime – and rivals look silly.

Gable Endies’ top scorer Webby will strive to add to his 14-goal tally against leaders Cove in a battle between first and second.

Incredibly, eight of those strikes have been from 12 yards out as the 29-yearold has proved himself to be a penalty expert.

But some credit must go to Lyons, back at Links Park from Partick Thistle.

Webster, available again after being sidelined for last week’s draw with Alloa, said: “We’ve had a lot of penalties this year, which has been good for my tally.

“But it always seems to be Blair who wins them. He has probably won me 95 per cent of them. He is a brilliant player and it is great to have him back.

“Blair’s got that quick change of pace and if he faces you up in the box, you’re pretty scuppered if you make a challenge because he’ll make you look silly and will win that penalty. Keep it going, Blair.

“If you look at the stats over the years, this is the best I’ve been playing and probably the best return I’m giving back in terms of goals and other things.”

Stewart Petrie’s side haven’t lost since mid September and yet somehow still find themselves seven points off Paul Hartley’s men.

Webster added: “There have been way too many draws in there we’d have liked to have turned into wins. Cove at the moment, no matter who they’re playing, they’re just finding a way to win.

“It’s frustrating, we feel we shouldn’t be that many points off them. But if we go there and win, it brings it down to four points.”

Cove have won eight on the trot and Blair Yule capped the run by picking up the League One Player of the Month this week.

Fan restrictions will be lifted in time for their trip to Hibs in the Scottish Cup but today’s top-table clash comes too soon.

The midfielder said: “I do feel for the fans because we’d have got a big turnout, even from Montrose’s fans as well. We’ll just need to focus on making the ones who are watching at home maybe just as happy.”
