Tony: We’ll get it right this time

-

ANNAN midfielder Tony Wallace is relishing a shot at redemption after play-off heartache three years ago.

Wallace’s spot-kick ended Forfar’s hopes and the 31-year-old is now hoping to go one better than the Annan outfit beaten in the play-offs by Clyde in 2019.

A place in League One awaits if they can see off Edinburgh City in the final.

And Wallace said: “We were 1-0 up in the first leg against Clyde and they turned us over in the second leg.

“There’s four of us in the squad who were part of that and we don’t want to go through it again.

“Annan have not been promoted to League One yet. There’s no point in us saying we’ve had a good year if we don’t win promotion now.

“We believe in ourselves but so will Edinburgh City. We know their strengths and we know what they’ll

bring to the tie but the good thing for us is the way we played against Forfar last Tuesday to give us a lead to take into the second leg.

“We came to Forfar a few weeks ago and got beaten 5-1.

“So we knew how tough it was going to be – and we had to ride our luck at times – but Greg Fleming showed why he’s the best keeper in the league.”

Forfar took the lead on 32 minutes, Stefan McCluskey scoring with the simplest of tap-ins after Tomas Brindley squared the ball into the forward’s path.

Annan were awarded a penalty two minutes from time after Michael Garrity was brought down when racing through on goal.

And Wallace stepped up to cooly guide the spot-kick into the bottom left corner.
