Dom: Joker Wallace can help provide us with stroke of luck
DOM DOCHERTY says in Tony Wallace Annan have the joker in the pack who’s ace at ensuring handling the play-off pressure cooker goes swimmingly.
The Galabankies head to Edinburgh City tonight in the first leg of their play-off final with both sides seeking to reach League One for the first time.
Attacker Wallace made sure his team would be in the decider with an 88th-minute penalty at Forfar, his 17th goal this season.
He marked it with one of the more imaginative celebrations, dropping to the turf to pretend he was swimming. Docherty
said: “He likes to keep everybody laughing with his celebrations. We’ll leave him to do that.
“He actually did that because we were in the pool on Saturday morning and I think he raced one of the boys and beat them. He was mimicking that.
“We weren’t too pleased – swimming takes it out your legs!
“He’s the joker in our club, he’s funny. We are a tight-knit group and all want to do the best for each other, not just ourselves.”
The midfielder’s biggest games beckon as the electrician added:
“There are people you don’t know on the building site coming up wishing you all the best.”
Danny Handling’s lost every end-of-season shoot-out he’s been in with Hibs, Dumbarton,
Raith as well as Edinburgh City. But he insists the Citizens “will get promoted one day” – he just hopes he helps deliver history.
Handling said: “It is another tough two games but if you were to offer a chance to have two games to seal a promotion against a team in your own league you’ve beaten previously, you’d snap the hand off.”
