RAMSAY’S ON US RICH LIST
RICHIE RAMSAY kept his place in the top 10 in a four-event US Open money list as Sam Horsfield’s girlfriend helped him bag Belgian glory.
Scots ace Ramsay posted three birdies in his closing five holes of the Soudal Open in Antwerp for a two-under 69 and a six-under 278 tally, to grab a share of 15th.
After going so close to victory a week ago at the Belfry, Ramsay remains inside the leading 10 ahead of a week’s break in Europe before the Dutch Open,
That’s the third of the four events that would qualify him for a first US Open in four years, should the Edinburgh golfer remain inside the top 10.
Craigielaw’s Grant Forrest also put himself in the US Open picture as he finished the leading Scot, sharing ninth place in Belgium thanks to a closing round of 70, for a seven-under total.
Englishman Horsfield, with his girlfriend standing in as his caddie, was rock steady in signing for a three-under 68.
The 25-year-old pro clinched a third DP World Tour victory by two shots from Yannik Paul and Ryan Fox with a 13-under total.
He said: “I was trying not to cry while I was over that little tap-in at the 18th.
“Having my girlfriend Issi on the bag, it’s been an amazing week.
“Mick Seaborn, my regular caddie, is not here but I wish he was. I said on Saturday I wanted to do it for him and I was able to. I’m just so, so happy.
“I definitely thought about Mick a lot, especially on the back nine.
“I pulled a few clubs that he definitely would have wanted me to hit.
“Issi has been amazing. I’ve been so happy on the course. I asked her coming down 18, ‘Are you nervous?’ and she said yeah.
“But we’ve had an amazing week and I’m just so happy she was here to enjoy this.”
