Superfans make 11,000-mile trek

- BY RORY CASSIDY

SUPPORTERS yesterday poured into Seville from around the globe.

Fans of the Ibrox club made their way to the Andalusian city from at least four different continents ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League final clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Pals Roddy Strachan and Gary Brisbane made the 11,000-mile trip from their homes in Melbourne, Australia.

Roddy, originally of Peterhead, also took son Leith, 12, on the trip. IT engineer Roddy, 44, told the Record: “I reckon door-todoor from Melbourne it took about 38 hours. We flew from Melbourne to Dubai then to Madrid and finally got the train to Seville. “We’ve got tickets to the fan zone at the Cartuja stadium. We just had to be here.” Building company manager Gary, 46, who was in Manchester when Rangers were in the Uefa Cup final in 2008, added: “The journey here was long but it doesn’t happen very often – only once every 14 years.

“What a job I had getting here. I lost my bag and my then phone died with my QR code on my phone.

“I managed to get into a chemist and put my charger in and go through and I ran.

“It was at gate 73 and I was at gate 1. It was like a world record me running to that gate – I was like Usain Bolt.”

Jake Dix made his way to Spain from his home in Pattaya, Thailand, where he started the Pattaya Loyal Rangers Supporters Club.

The 50-year-old, who moved to Asia from Inverness, said: “I paid a lot for a ticket but it’s just not to be missed.”

Other fans revealed on social media that they were heading to the game from the Dominican Republic and

Houston, Texas.
