LYDON: THERE’S TOO MUCH SEX IN PISTOL

Singer blasts ‘sleazy series’

- BY TOM BRYANT

JOHN Lydon has taken a fresh pop at the Sex Pistols drama series, saying it is too sleazy.

The singer, aka Johnny Rotten, previously threatened to sue producers of the forthcoming biographical show called Pistol.

It is based on a memoir by former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, which goes into detail about his sex addiction.

Talking about the show, Lydon claimed: “It’s upsetting as a lot of it has sexual connotations which are dubious at best. They have gone for the wrong end of things just to be sensational. I think there is much more quality to the Pistols than that.”

It is understood Lydon, who was the band’s frontman, has not seen the show.

In the memoir, Jones talks about his voracious sexual appetite. His antics included sleeping with Nancy

MEMOIR Spungen, the girlfriend of his Pistols bandmate Sid Vicious. Jones also reveals he was the victim of childhood sex abuse.

Speaking in 2017 about his sex addiction, Jones said: “When I got off the heroin, when I got clean, I went ballistic. I mean, three a day. Hookers, hot chicks, street people – anything.” Lydon, 66, has previously blasted the TV series, which can be streamed on Disney Plus from May 31. The singer, who had no involvement in the show about the notorious punk rock band, said: “Cutting me out is a shockingly stupid move. “They can all f*** off. None of these f***s would have a career but for me.” Danny Boyle, who directed the series, said: “John complains we didn’t approach him. We did approach him, and I’d have loved to have him involved.”
