Drinks on Gio’s boys for trophy

- BY JOHN DOCHERTY

KEVIN DRINKELL has hailed Gio van Bronckhorst as a Rangers magician.

And he reckons his finest act came when he managed to turn things around after Rangers were crushed 3-0 by Celtic in February.

Former Ibrox favourite Drinkell admits questions were beginning to be asked on the back of that wounding Celtic Park defeat.

But he insists van Bronckhorst showed what he is all about as Rangers bounced back superbly to claim that stunning 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

Now Seville beckons for Rangers and Drinks is convinced his old team can deliver the goods against Eintracht Frankfurt. He said: “I believe Rangers are going to win. When you look at the results they have had I can see no reason why not.

“Their performances this year in Europe have been outstanding. Even when they have looked up against it, Gio and his players have somehow managed to conjure up something special. And they have done it without Alfredo Morelos who has been such a big player for them.

“It’s a pat on the back to Gio and I think a turning point came when they suffered that dip and heavy defeat to Celtic. People were beginning to think that’s the end of their run because they had lost a bit of form in the league, drawing against Ross County just before the Celtic defeat.

“They wondered how Rangers were going to come through that one but they turned any doubts on the head with that result against Borussia Dortmund and since then they have gone from strength to strength as they showed by beating Leipzig.”
