SPACEY ON 4 SEX ASSAULT CHARGES
Hollywood star Kevin facing prosecution as Met Police build case
HOLLYWOOD actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault against three men.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the screen veteran has also been charged with a crime involving a lack of consent during a sexual act.
The incidents are alleged to have taken place in London between March 2005 and August 2008, and in Gloucestershire in April 2013.
It follows a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its previous investigation into the actor.
Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “The CPS has authorised criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men. The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”
Spacey is a two-time Oscar winner, known for starring roles in films including American Beauty, opposite Annette Bening, and The Usual Suspects.
The actor also had a long-running role in the Netflix political thriller House of Cards. He was cast as Jean Paul Getty in the 2017 movie All the Money in the World but was replaced by Christopher Plummer after sexual offence allegations emerged.
He was artistic director of The Old Vic theatre in London from 2004 until 2015.
The theatre has since apologised after it revealed it had received allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
Spacey has denied all allegations of sexual harassment and assault. The actor was interviewed under caution by the Metropolitan Police’s Complex Case Team in America in 2019. The Team passed a file to the CPS last year.
Spacey did not attend the Cannes Film Festival last week.
But he is one of the stars of a new film called Peter Five Eight, made on a small budget. Spacey plays a villain in the film.
The actor has kept a low profile in recent years, though he was spotted on set in Dunsmuir, California, smoking a cigarette in July last year.
He is understood to be living in London, although it was reported recently he also spends time in Florida and Los Angeles in the British winter.
