We need full pack in South America

-

ZANDER FAGERSON expects Scotland to take a full-strength squad on this summer’s three-Test tour of Argentina.

There’s been speculation that boss Gregor Townsend will give the eight – including Fagerson – who toured with the Lions last summer a well-deserved holiday.

That would allow some emerging players to get valuable game-time as Townsend looks to build his squad’s depth ahead of next year’s World Cup.

But Fagerson believes going to South America with a weakened team could be catastrophic.

He said: “It will be tough opposition in a hostile country. Argentina in Argentina is a different beast so we’ll be going as strong as possible, so we’ll see what happens when the squad is named.

“Personally, I love to play for Scotland any time of year so I would love to go.

“The Argentines pride themselves on their forward play and in the year before the World Cup it is a great challenge for us. It will be a great battle over there.”

Meanwhile, Glasgow’s veteran second-row Richie Gray revealed that he’s not ruled out an international return this summer.

The 32-year-old has not played for Scotland since turning down an invitation to be part of the 2021 Autumn series but says he has not closed the door on adding to his 67 caps.

He said: “I’ve never ruled myself out in the past, it has always been about timing. There’s conversations to be had with management but thats for after the quarters.

“I’d need a good sit down and talk about.”

Glasgow face a daunting challenge away to Leinster in next weekend’s URC play-off quarter-final.

Gray said: “I don’t think they have any weaknesses, their depth is unbelievable.”
