Aldi’s latest gin range is a taste of summer

Retailer showcases the best from top Scottish distilleries

NOTHING lifts your spirits and signals the sunshine like the start of the gin season.

With it comes the chance to try some of the delicious new and innovative flavours from Scottish distilleries.

Aldi has been at the forefront of the gin revolution in Scotland – supporting small, independent distilleries – and their collaborations have given us some of our favourite tipples.

Toradh (pronounced Tor-ig) is the latest gin range to be launched into Aldi Scotland’s core spirits, showcasing a range of flavours that ensure gin lovers keep coming back.

Gaelic for yield or produce, Toradh is a celebration of Scotland’s nature, of our land’s lush fertility and the abundance of fine ingredients.

The range is produced by St Andrews based Eden Mill and Callander based McQueen’s Gin. Neither are strangers to unusual gin combinations, and their latest collaboration with Aldi has produced Toradh, which is bursting with botanicals and summer flavours.

The groundswell towards artisan producers is a movement Aldi have embraced, by championing local producers.

The supermarket’s regional buying teams are quick to spot and understand new trends, including the demand for small batch gin.

Flavoured gins have never been more popular, catching up with classic juniper-led bottlings, especially amongst the 18-34yr old market and amongst other drinkers looking to widen their taste experiences.

The Toradh range taps into the desire for interesting flavour combinations and everyone will find something they love here, whether you’re a fan of sweeter, tropical flavours or more traditional citrus gins. And of course, who doesn’t love a pink gin?

In the Toradh gin range from Aldi you can choose from Original, Premium Pink, Tropical, Rhubarb & Ginger and Plum & Pink Grapefruit. A new flavour, Seville Orange, has recently joined the line-up and is another perfect addition to any drink’s cabinet.

Aromatic and zesty with juniper, orange and hints of floral orange blossom, this is a sweet, candied and full-bodied gin which pairs well with a premium or Mediterranean tonic.

If you’re a fan of gin liqueurs, you’ll love the award-winning selection from Toradh, including Rhubarb & Ginger, which

was awarded a Gold Star at the Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards while the Toradh Raspberry Gin Liqueur was awarded a Silver.

Both are delicious served simply with ice or added to some fizz.

Aldi’s relationship with both Eden Mill and McQueen Gin, has been transformational for the Scottish producers.

Dale McQueen, managing director of McQueen Gin, said: “The relationship that we have developed with Aldi has been hugely important to the success of our business, helping us grow our turnover significantly and allowing us to invest in our distillery and increase capacity. “It’s great to work with a team who share our mindset and passion for

Scottish produce. They and their customers hold true appreciation for the Scottish gin category, along with a strong desire to support innovation and experiment with new flavours and products, which makes for a very fulfilling partnership.”

Other additions to the Toradh gin range include four delicious pre-mixed Gin Fizz cocktails – making sure your summer drink has that extra “je ne sais quoi”, even if you didn’t quite make it to the Riviera.

You can never tell what you’re going to get with a Scottish summer in terms of the weather, but Aldi gin is channeling all the sunshine.

Delicous ready-made cocktails that you simply pour in a glass…
