WE LEV IN HOPE

Tangerines keen to bring Old Trafford ace back to Tannadice

- BY SCOTT BURNS

DUNDEE UNITED hope the door will open for them to bring Dylan Levitt back to Tannadice on loan next season.

The Welsh international starred as he helped Tam Courts’ side to finish fourth and qualify for the Europa Conference League.

Levitt’s contract with Manchester United is due to expire this month but the signs are that the Old Trafford club are set to take up their option to extend the deal.

The Taysiders hope United are open to sending the 21-year-old north again to continue his development in Scotland with the added attraction of European football.

But they may have to play the waiting game while new Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag runs the rule over his squad.

United are close to agreeing a new deal with American midfielder Ian Harkes. Talks are also ongoing with young defender Lewis Neilson and are likely to come to a head soon.

The Tangerines want to add new faces and they are set for pre-contract talks with St Johnstone keeper Zander Clark. Meanwhile, Chris Mochrie has admitted he could have been starring for Dundee had United not convinced him to cross the city divide.

The attacker is one of the brightest young talents at Tannadice.

The 19-year-old confirmed he was training with Dundee when Brian Grant got him to switch allegiances.

He said: “He got me into training with them and at the time you could train with both as you didn’t need to be signed but I stopped going to Dundee because United’s training was a lot better.”

The attacker had spent time at Manchester City and Liverpool but he is glad he decided to remain at Tannadice and push for the first team.

Now he wants a regular starting spot.

He said: “Having had a taste of the Premiership this season, including a few starts at Tannadice and in addition to playing at Ibrox, hopefully the more exposure I get at this level I will continue to show the fans what I can do.

“Certainly, that is the goal for next season.”

The likes of Archie Meekison, Lewis Neilson, Kieran Freeman, Declan Glass, Ross Graham, Darren Watson and Rory MacLeod were just some of the academy youngsters also thrown into the front line this season.

And Mochrie admitted they took a lot of heart from the game against Rangers. He said: “All were guided by the more senior players who did quite well and playing in such a massive stadium against a top side was quite an enjoyable experience.”
