TV JUDITH: I feared my Dad had love child with famous film actress
BBC presenter reveals affair on Queen Mary was inspiration behind hilarious Still Game episode
WEATHER presenter Judith Ralston has revealed her father had a fling with a world-famous actress which she feared may have resulted in a love child.
The BBC Scotland forecaster said her sailor dad Alex charmed the Hollywood star while working on board luxury liner the Queen Mary in the 1960s.
Judith, 54, was told the story by her dad shortly before his death and it inspired an episode of comedy Still Game after she told writer Greg Hemphill about it.
She refused to name the woman involved as she is still alive but told how she then wondered if one of the celebrity’s children might be her sibling.
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland programme The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected, she said: “My dad told me he was serving on the Queen Mary in the early 1960s and there was a very, very famous Hollywood actress on there.
“She was one of the most beautiful women in the world actually and I won’t name her because she’s still alive.
“Her air conditioning fan had broken down and my dad was called to go and fix it for her.
“I don’t know how because he couldn’t paint a door never mind fix a fan. Anyway he ended up going to help her and she found him very funny. ‘She liked my monkey impersonation,’ were the words he used.
“He ended up going to help her every evening on that trip.” She added: “My oldest boy now knows the story because he’s nearly 20 and every time he sees a picture of this lady he calls her ‘Granny’. “After my dad passed away I remember being in the dentist and there was pictures in a magazine and it said her son was getting married and I thought ‘Oh please God, don’t let him look like my dad.’” In a hilarious 2018 episode of Still Game, Jack and Victor’s pal Eric claims he had an affair with Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida while serving in the Navy in the 1950s. Judith added: “My neighbour and pal Greg Hemphill loved the story and he wove it into one of the Still Game episodes. “He changed names and whatnot but the bones of the story is based on my dad. My dad loved Still Game so it’s a great story.”
