Fitz nice to be boarder once again

-

MATT FITZPATRICK will be a Brookline lodger again this week as he looks to repeat his Boston heroics.

The English ace won the US Amateur at the infamous Ryder Cup venue in 2013 and he’s heading back to stay with the same family who put him up nine years ago.

Fitzpatrick was such a shock winner his dad had only booked the hotel up to the quarter-final stages – and he ended up staying with family friends for the final few rounds.

The 27-year-old has moved back in this week as he looks to build on his near miss at the US PGA Championship by claiming his first Major.

Fitzpatrick said: “I’m just really looking forward to it. It’s been on my radar for years that I knew it was coming here.

“I’m staying with the

Fulton family I stayed with when I played the US Amateur here and my parents are here as well, so I’m just really excited for the week.

“I actually came here for Thanksgiving when I was in college briefly, 2013, and then played golf with them a couple of years ago here, saw them just before the US Open in 2016.

“We came for a week and played the course and stuff. They’ve got three kids, which is going to be good fun.”

Fitzpatrick means business though after narrowly missing out at Southern Hills last month.

The European Tour winner was in the last group but stumbled to a final-round 73 to miss out on the play-off by one stroke as Justin Thomas claimed the trophy.

Fitzpatrick said: “I’ve still not really had a chance to do a full reflection.

“Obviously it was disappointing at first when you come off the golf course and sort of realise you had a chance to win and you’ve not taken it. I feel like I’m playing well.”
