SIR Rod Stewart has announced a special Edinburgh show in honour of his dad, ahead of Father’s Day.

He will also today release a moving new video for his song Touchline celebrating his dad and his own kids.

The rocker’s father Robert was from Leith and moved to London before Rod was born. He passed away in 1990 but instilled in the singer his deep love of Scotland. His gravestone reads: “Thanks for the tartan pride Dad”.

Sir Rod, 77, a father of eight himself, said: “If you know anything about me you know that our dad’s love of football has most definitely left its impact on me and my brothers and I’m delighted that it’s now such an important part of my children’s lives as well.

“The song Touchline was my tribute to him and I’m so happy and moved that the new video takes that to the ultimate level just in time for Father’s Day.”

The teaser of the video, to be released today, includes black and white photos of Rod playing football with his Dad and also photos of Rod’s own kids.

While Robert was a Hibs supporter, Celticloving Rod of course manages to slip in a mention of Celtic with footage of Danny McGrain.

Touchline includes the line “A Scotsman and plumber by trade”, as Rod sings about Robert’s love of football and how he will be looking over his family.

“Now it’s my time on the side in the rain and watch my boys play the beautiful game.” he lamented. “And sometimes, sometimes I look up to the clouds and I say ‘Dad I hope you’re looking down, cause if it wasn’t for you, all this might not have been.’”

Sir Rod has also announced select tickets on his tour will be given to NHS frontline workers.

●Rod will play a venue to be confirmed in Edinburgh on November 13, Glasgow OVO Hydro on November 29, Aberdeen P&J Live on December 2 and Glasgow OVO Hydro on December 3. Tickets from: LiveNation.co.uk
