Sex pest MP Grady resigns from party
Now the Met launches an investigation as SNP faces fresh turmoil in Commons harassment shambles
SEX pest MP Patrick Grady has given up his membership of the SNP while police investigate claims of sexual harassment against him.
The former party whip at Westminster is reportedly stepping away from the SNP after coming under the scrutiny of a police investigation.
The Metropolitan Police are probing the incident at a London pub where the SNP politician was said to have made “unwanted sexual advances” to a teenage party employee.
Glasgow North MP Grady, 42, will sit as an independent in the House of Commons while police investigate the allegation of sexual harassment.
The sexual misconduct accusation against Grady was upheld by Westminster authorities and he received a two-day suspension.
The MP was also suspended from the SNP group but Westminster leader Ian Blackford was then heard urging colleagues to give their “absolute” support for Grady in a leaked recording.
The police complaint has been made not by Grady’s victim but by another worker and detectives are preparing to speak to the young man at the centre of the case.
The move piles further pressure on Blackford, who has faced demands to quit as Westminster leader over his handling of the case which has already caused rifts within the SNP.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the comments heard on the recording were “utterly unacceptable” and added that the tape “reveals part of what was wrong on that case”.
The scandal now threatens to overshadow Sturgeon’s launch tomorrow of her plans on how to stage a second independence referendum.
