OLD FIRM AIM TO DO WELL IN RICE PURSUIT

- BY SCOTT BURNS

CELTIC and Rangers have made opening bids for Motherwell youngster Bailey Rice.

But the pair face Premier League competition for the Scotland Under-17 cap.

The Glasgow giants have both started talks and tabled offers with the Steelmen to land Rice.

A Premier League club have also declared their interest while Well are fighting to try to keep their young prodigy.

The defender is not due to turn 16 until later this year and will then be eligible to sign his first professional forms.

The Old Firm both see the teenager as one of the best young players in Scotland and are trying to win his signature.

If Motherwell are to lose Rice, they would be looking to strike a deal now with future add-ons built in.

That would be more than the basic compensation they would be due if he was to move before he signs his first pro deal.

FLEETWOOD have given Mikey Devlin the chance to win a deal.

The Scotland ace will spend pre-season with the League One side.

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown knows Devlin from his time at Aberdeen and wants the defender to prove his fitness.

Devlin has had a horror

run with injuries and last made a top-team appearance back in 2020.

The 28-year-old was given a deal by Aberdeen to recover from his injuries but suffered a couple of setbacks in that time.

He agreed to terminate his Pittodrie contract at the end of the season and is hoping a fresh move will give him the luck he needs.

The former Hamilton player is also keen to try his luck in England.

Brown has already made one signing from Scotland in the shape of Shaun Rooney from St Johnstone.

● PARTICK THISTLE are keen to re-sign Aidan Fitzpatrick.

The 21-year-old has been back training with his former club. Ian McCall wants to offer terms but any deal hinges on Queen of the South holding out for compensation.

Fitzpatrick turned out for Queens last term and they are entitled to money due to his age. Thistle aren’t prepared to pay a fee and will only take him on a free.
