SCOTS comedian Janey Godley was overjoyed last night to share the news with her fans that she is now cancer free.

The 61-year-old went on Twitter to reveal her latest scan came back clear and thanked the NHS.

Janey has been battling the disease and updating followers as she went through operations and treatment after her shock diagnosis last year.

She had a hysterectomy and several rounds of chemotherapy.

Speaking in a video uploaded to Twitter, a tearful Janey said: “I have just had a phone call from the cancer specialist and the scan has came back clear.

“There is no evidence of the disease so, after the hysterectomy and six rounds of chemo and a blood transfusion, it seems like the NHS has definitely saved my life.

“I want to thank everyone at the Beatson Cancer Care and everyone at the NHS who looked after me. I also want to thank my wee pal Shirley who looked after me when I came out after the hysterectomy.”

Janey will have to take pills for the rest of her life to stop the cancer returning but said her “cup was full of gratefulness” as she also thanked the thousands of well-wishers who have supported her through her ordeal.

Comics Julian Clary and Jenny Eclair and BBC weather forecaster Judith Ralston were among those who wished her well for the future.

One Janey fan tweeted: “That is fantastic news. I’ve been following your journey as I’ve had a total hysterectomy for womb cancer and have to have some brachial therapy as a precaution so good to see you come through this and looking very well.”
