JACKO: THE MOVIE
Nephew says time is right to tell singer’s side of abuse claims
MICHAEL Jackson’s nephew has revealed a film about his uncle is on the cards, saying: “It’s going to happen.”
Soul singer TJ Jackson – son of Tito – says a film about the late singer and the Jackson 5 needs to be told to reframe the “awful” sex abuse allegations made after his death in various TV documentaries. TJ, 43, said: “I think it’s awful, to be honest. I think it’s very sad.
“I think it’s in a way disgusting because what sells in this world is negativity. People like to gossip, people like scandals.
“And my uncle is not here to defend himself. And so he’s an easy target. He was always an easy target, because he was always quiet.
“But now that he’s no longer with us, there couldn’t be an easier target.
“Everyone knows who Michael Jackson is. So it’s an easy story to sell. But I truly believe truth always wins out.”
TJ wants any Jackson 5 film to be about more than just music.
He said: “The unification and the importance that my family had in the black culture first, black people, and allowing people of all nationalities around the world to love and idolise a black family or black figures is something that I think gets lost.
“We talked about the music and the records but to become sex symbol symbols for our huge band and number one in the early 70s as black kids is an incredible accomplishment. And that story needs to be amplified.”
TJ is jetting into London for a show next week – An Evening with TJ Jackson – at St Martin’s House in London on July 11. For tickets, visit tjjacksonmusic.com
