WE’RE NO FAL GUYS

McGlynn: Bairns will be asset to Champ

- BY MICHAEL BAILLIE

JOHN MCGLYNN is sure his title-winning Falkirk side will be an asset to the Championship.

And the Bairns boss is confident they can compete at the top end next season after ending their five-year stay in League One.

McGlynn said: “We’ll be an asset in the Championship. We’ve got a squad here and continuity in the squad with a lot of players re-signed for next season.

“We’ll have some work to do in the summer, not a whole lot, but everyone knows how we play, how we go about things and from that point of view we’ve got 14, 15 players signed for next season.

“We could play a game tomorrow and not a lot of teams will be able to say that. We’ll look forward to next season in the Championship and I think we’ll add something to it.

“The club have gone through hard times. We’ve not had any more budget than other people and the budget will still be tight. It’s not like we can spend fortunes in the summer.

“But we’ve got a good enough squad to go up and certainly compete at the higher end.”

Falkirk were confirmed as League One winners prior to their game at Montrose after Hamilton’s draw with Queen of the South. And they celebrated in style with an emphatic 7-1 win.

McGlynn left Raith Rovers in May 2022, along with assistant Paul Smith, and was appointed Falkirk boss the following day.

The Bairns missed out on promotion last season after falling in the play-off semifinal to Airdrie. But McGlynn was thrilled to get the job done this time.

He added: “I’m absolutely over the moon. I’m delighted we came here.

“It was a big challenge and we took it head on.

“The first season was a great season with a Scottish Cup semi-final and second place comfortably.

“All right, we let ourselves down in the play-offs but we played 50 games.

“This season the guys have been fantastic. I can’t compliment the players and backroom staff enough. Paul’s been amazing and the directors as well.”
