Russell and Fox hoping that it won’t be raintree

-

UPDATE

LUCINDA RUSSELL wants the rain to stop lashing Liverpool to avoid seeing a treble being washed down the drain.

Corach Rambler will hunt back-to-back Randox Grand National wins at Aintree on Saturday week.

But downpours have hammered the track and the prospect of the race being run on heavy ground is now a huge possibility.

Trainer Russell, chasing a hat-trick of National wins along with jockey Derek Fox after One For Arthur’s win in 2017, hopes for a let-up.

Corach Rambler warmed up for Aintree with a superb third in the Boodles Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and she said: “Time seems to be passing very quickly since Cheltenham but everything has been going according to plan.

“He’s now back in full work and we’ll get him wound up for the National.

“Everything is looking good, I just wish it would slightly stop raining at Aintree. I don’t think anyone would want a really heavy ground Grand National, so hopefully it won’t be too testing, it does drain well.”

Corach Rambler heads a select Russell team into action at Aintree.

Ahoy Senior followed up wins in the Sefton Novices Hurdle in 2021 and Mildmay Novices Chase in 2022 with a second to Shiskin in the Bowl last year and Russell said: “He’ll go for the Bowl again and he’s in good form.” SNOOKER: Ronnie O’Sullivan cut the mustard as he roared into the Tour Championship semi-finals.

The Rocket, 48, crushed Ali Carter 10-2 in Manchester while sporting a Doug Mountjoy-esque mustard coloured shirt. He said: “I’ve ruined every black shirt I’ve got! This is the only shirt I had left, so I thought I’d give this a good seeing to.” SWIMMING: Kathleen Dawson punched her ticket to the Paris Olympics at the British trials in London. The 26-year-old Scot dominated the 100metres backstroke.
