Mother of all bids as Robertson fires back for Hoops

- BY ALISON MCCONNELL

CELTIC AND SCOTLAND midfielder Lisa Robertson couldn’t keep the smile off her face after making her comeback from the birth of son Lucas in Sunday’s 5-0 win over Partick Thistle.

Lucas was born at the end of November and Robertson, 31, admitted it was gruelling getting back to match fitness.

Back in the gym within eight weeks, Robertson’s aim had been to feature for elena Sadiku’s side before the end of the season.

She managed it with a bit to spare as Celtic look to close down SWPL leaders Rangers – who are better off by just one point – and claim their first title.

Robertson said: “My driving force was always to play before the end of the season and help the girls.

“I also wanted to play in front of Lucas and my partner, Mark, who has been so supportive. It was an amazing feeling for me and that was my motivation when I was pushing to get back to fitness.

“It was hard work to get there. Lucas is a dream and I have adored motherhood but getting back into physical shape was tough.

“It was harder than I’d ever have expected. I trained during my pregnancy all the way through but I had a C-section and that made things a bit more complicated. I expected

when I got my six-week check I would be ready to get back but I wasn’t.

“It was eight weeks before I was back. That was a shock to the system as I hadn’t done anything at all.

“For the first three or four weeks I had barely moved. I’d had major surgery and then had a newborn to look after so physically it was really hard.

“The first thing I had to do was get to work on my core to make sure I was building up those muscles to be able to run again. Now, four months since having Lucas I am back on the pitch and it’s all about building my endurance.”

One of the most experienced players in Celtic’s squad, Robertson is now eager to help Celtic with the title run-in as they set their sights on the title.

She added: “All the hard work’s been worthwhile but now it’s about trying to focus on the last seven games – everyone is determined to make history here.”
