2 men drown at waterfall

Student pals fell at beauty spot taking photo

Two students have drowned after getting into trouble at a beauty spot.

emergency services raced to the linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl, in Perthshire, after the alarm was raised on Wednesday night.

The victims were named locally last night as Jitendrana­th “Jitu” Karuturi, aged 26, and and chanhakya Bolisetti, 22.

They are understood to have been taking a photo when they fell into the water.

The pair, from india, were studying master’s degrees in data science and engineerin­g. They had been hiking with another friend.

Police attended and, following a search, the bodies were recovered from the water.

Jitu had been working at the Taza indian buffet restaurant in Dundee.

His manager Vaseem Salimi, told the courier: “everybody is devastated. Jitu was really popular with everybody.

“He was very polite and mild-mannered. He never let us down ever.”

A spokespers­on for Dundee University said: “This has been a tragic accident which has shocked us all, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the students.

“We have been providing support to those families and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

it follows the death of a 39-year-old man at Dollar Glen in clackmanna­nshire on Saturday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two women were rescued.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 7pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men, aged 22 and 26 years, in the water at the linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl.

“inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstan­ces, however, there would not appear to be any suspicious circumstan­ces.”
