GO SMALL AVERTICAL WORLD

Avertical World, a little over 15 minutes’ stroll from Dundee station, specialise­s in indoor climbing. You can try your hand at bouldering – low-level climbing ideal for beginners – or roped climbing, where the walls reach above 10 metres.

BRAINYAXE

Fancy having a go at axe throwing? Just a few minutes’ walk from Inverkeith­ing station, you can do exactly that at BrainyAxe. You’ll be coached during your session before enjoying a mini tournament with your friends. There's also an escape room and laser shooting games available.

GO BIG FIFE CYCLE PARK

From Lochgelly station, it will take you less than 15 minutes to walk to Fife Cycle Park. There, you can hire a bike and cycle the specially designed 1.6km tarmac circuit. There’s plenty of space for serious cycling, but it’s also great for a fun ride with the family.

DUNBLANE SPORTS CLUB

Channel your inner Andy Murray by heading to Dunblane Sports Club – just nine minutes’ walk from the station – where he began his career. Book one of the four all-weather outdoor tennis courts and challenge the family to game, set and match.

GET OUTDOORS DEAN VILLAGE

Close to Edinburgh’s Haymarket station is Dean Village, a beauty spot near the heart of the city that includes Well Court, built in the 1880s as model housing for workers. The area is ideal for a leisurely stroll.

HERMITAGE PARK

Less than 10 minutes from Helensburg­h Central station is the charming Hermitage Park, where a group of community volunteers – Friends of Hermitage Park – are building a space for guided walks, storytelli­ng and heritage trails among many more activities.
