We aim to end season so Well

-

PAUL McGINN says Motherwell are determined to pip HIbs to seventh in the Premiership table to reward the club financially.

After a stunning Dingwall victory, the defender hammered out the now officially safe Fir Park club’s remaining motivation for the last two games.

Well will approach their final two fixtures, away to Hibs and at home to St Johnstone, knowing six points would be enough to clinch the top spot in the bottom six.

McGinn said: “It’s very important that we finish as high as possible in the league because these positions make a big difference to our club financially.

“It can be the difference between another player for Motherwell or a tighter squad, so we’ll be striving to do that.

“It’s not going to be easy but that’s our aim.”

Since losing 3-1 to Celtic at home in late February, Motherwell have been a team transformed.

In the nine games since that defeat left them just four points off the relegation zone, they have won five and drawn two, only losing twice by a single goal to Aberdeen.

Asked if the flurry of late goals in Dingwall was a confidence-booster, McGinn said: “With us scoring four against Livingston last week, the players in the final third take something from that.

“As a defender, I’d have loved it a bit more if we’d got that clean sheet.

“But it was a great finish to the game. We need to play in the sun more often!

“Ross County will feel hard done to. I don’t think it was a 5-1 game. At times they put us under pressure and Liam Kelly held strong for us.

“We had to properly defend our box so I don’t think they can be too downhearted with the final score as they pushed and pushed.”
