Hughton’s still Knock-ing on promotion door

-

JAMES WILSON hit a second-half winner as Brighton climbed to third place in the Sky Bet Championship with victory over ten-man Huddersfield.

Bobby Zamora put Albion on their way to a first home win in four games before Harry Bunn levelled in first-half stoppage time.

French right-winger Anthony Knockaert was outstanding on his home debut and set up both goals before a crowd of 25,367 at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls, who had taken only one point out of 15 before a 1-0 victory at Blackburn the previous week, broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when veteran striker Zamora hit his seventh goal of the season on the counter-attack in a move involving Beram Kayal and former Leicester winger Knockaert.

Albion had a let-off just before the break when the unmarked Nakhi Wells blazed over with the goal at his mercy but the Terriers levelled in first-half stoppage time when Bunn netted from a Tommy Smith cross.

Manchester United loanee Wilson replaced Zamora just before the hour mark and nine minutes later he headed in Knockaert’s curling cross from close range.

Huddersfield, unbeaten in their previous five

ROB BARLOW league games, played the final six minutes a man short after defender Smith received his second yellow card for a foul on Kazenga LuaLua.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: “We brought Anthony in because he can bring those moments of real quality. He knows this division having played in that position for a very good Leicester side.

“We need to score goals and we want players here who can assist and it was great that Anthony had a hand in both goals today.”

Huddersfield boss David Wagner said: “It was a defeat where we are able to learn very much.

“Firstly, we can see from this game that we are going the right way.

“For a big part of the game, I thought we did well against one of the best teams in the league.

“There were no goal chances for Brighton in the second half until the one they scored.”
