Dan swears to crack Wimbledon

-

BRITISH tennis ‘bad boy’ Dan Evans is targeting a first Wimbledon win after his latest run-in with the authorities.

Former British No.2 Evans, 26, was docked a point for swearing, then a game for an exchange with a fan in losing at Surbiton last week.

The world No.93 (right) has also, in the past, been fined for not turning up to an event and has faced criticism over his application.

But Evans, part of last year’s Davis Cup-winning team, is hoping to shrug off his latest setback and finally grab some glory on the SW19 grass later this month.

Evans, who has been given a wildcard for Queen’s this week, said: “Good results at Queen’s or Nottingham would be great.

“But I am desperate to win a match at Wimbledon, something I have never done, having lost in the first round three times. That would HECTOR NUNNS be a real step up. I am into the main draw off my ranking this year.

“Being part of the Davis Cup-winning team was brilliant last year and I would love to be part of it again.

“My parents worked hard to get me a chance. I tried to throw it away a few times but being in the top 100 makes it worth it.”

Meanwhile, Tara Moore – the Hong Kong-born British No.4 – hopes her impressive week at the Aegon Open in Nottingham can fire her up the rankings.

Moore, 23, saw her run end at the quarter-final stage in a 6-2 6-4 straight-sets loss to China’s Saisai Zheng. It was her first run to the last eight of a WTA main tour event and her ranking of 280 will surge. She said: “I am happy with this week and I improved my ranking a lot. “Having the crowd cheering for me has been great.”
