CHARLIE Sheen wants to get his acting career back on track – by joining EastEnders. The former hell-raiser, 50, reckons a role on the BBC soap would be perfect for him. Six years ago he was the highest paid TV star in the world thanks to US show Anger Management. He also had massive global hits with Two And A Half Men and Spin City. But he has struggled to land work since going off the rails a few years ago. In an exclusive interview, Sheen said he’s now hoping to make his TV comeback on EastEnders. He added: “A British soap opera set in London sounds great. I’d love that.” The reformed wildman then asked your Daily Star Sunday for help bagging the role and said: “How can I make it happen?” EastEnders is famed for casting household names in a bid to keep viewers interested. In recent years bosses have hired Richard Blackwood, Bonnie Langford and Denise Welch. And they regularly bring back old favourites such as Gillian Taylforth, Ross Kemp and Danniella Westbrook. But Charlie would be their first movie A-lister and getting him to Walford is bound to push the ratings through the roof. Sheen’s real life over the past few years has been as dramatic as anything seen in Albert Square. The world watched him fall from grace in 2011 when he hinted he was drinking tiger blood. He has spent time in rehab in the past after struggling to control his alcohol and drug use. Charlie has also had a string of arrests and criminal charges against his name. Last year he bravely spoke out about his HIV diagnosis for the first time in a TV interview. A telly insider said: “If anyone knows about drama, it’s Charlie. “His life is just as sensational as any soap. If he wants to be taken seriously as an actor again, there’s no place better to prove yourself than a soap because it’s hard work and emotionally draining.”

Sheen was in the UK last month to promote his own condom range and to do a live Q&A in London’s West End.

He was mobbed by fans when he went sightseeing around the capital.

Sources close to the star said he is a massive fan of Britain.

One told us: “Charlie loves the UK. He always enjoys visiting and he’d love to do some acting over here.”

Charlie’s next big project will be film Nine Eleven, adapted from a stage play about the 2001 attacks on New York.
