‘Our flops should pull the Wales open-top bus through the streets’
We Dragons: Top English celebs join forces to throw their support behind Bale and his boys in their final fling
RADIO and TV broadcaster Danny Baker has hailed the Welsh Dragons – and blasted England’s footie flops.
Danny said the Three Lions stars, who crashed out against minnows Iceland, were “abject failures”.
And he raged: “Our squad should be forced to pull the Wales open-top bus through the streets.”
The 59-year-old is not the only celebrity to support Wales in the Euros after they beat Belgium 3-1 in the quarter finals.
And bookies have taken £20million in bets on the Dragons to overcome Portugal on Wednesday.
Comedy duo Ant & Dec said: “Woke up after a night out and realised it wasn’t a dream.
“Go on #Wales!! Perfect example of #TogetherStronger. D”
TV star Davina McCall also joined in the celebrations by tweeting: “Yessssssssss! #Wales !!!!!”
And presenter Melanie Sykes was swept away by the occasion. She tweeted: “How emotional is this #Wales EURO2016 bloody brilliant.” Wales midfielder Joe Ledley, who plays for Crystal Palace, has been impressing with his football skills and dance moves. As videos of his pitch and locker room celebrations flooded the internet, Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid said: “Watching Joe Ledley dancing is making me happy. Come on Wales!! #Wales #Dragons #cpfc #Eagles.” Chris Coleman’s men are underdogs in the semifinal clash against Portugal, with Ladbrokes giving odds of 11/10 to Cristiano Ronaldo and his team-mates, with Wales at 16/5. But comedian David Baddiel, who co-wrote England’s Three Lions song, believes Wales can defy the 8/1 odds of them winning the tournament – the Dragons were 100/1 outsiders when the Euros kicked off. David said: “Wales might win it. They might be the Brian Clough Nottingham Forest of international football. “They already have the kit.” But Prime Minister David Cameron was accused of “jumping on the bandwagon” in showing support for the Welsh. He tweeted: “Amazing performance, amazing result. Passion & pride shown by Wales team & fans are incredible to watch. “Bring on Portugal!” One punter in East London placed a £2 double bet in October 2015 on Leicester finishing in the top four of the Premier League and Wales winning Euro 2016. He will collect just over £5,000 if his wager comes in. Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: “English punters are rallying behind their Welsh brothers like never before and bookies are braced to be bashed for millions as Wales once again show the supposed big boys how it’s done.”
